Amazon will take up the entire sixth and seventh floors of the 16-story building
As NYC's boroughs compete for Amazon's future second headquarters, the company is expanding its existing footprint in Manhattan. Amazon has signed a 15-year lease at Brooklyn Properties' Manhattan West mini-megaproject. The company will occupy the sixth and seventh floors of the former brutalist building at 450 West 33rd Street that's now been refit with a glass exterior courtesy of an REX design.
Amazon has leased a total of 360,000 square feet at the building, which is now known as 5 Manhattan West. As a result, the 16-story office is now 99 percent leased. Whole Foods (which Amazon now owns) will open a 60,000 square foot space at the base of the office building.
The Manhattan West office will serve as the main NYC location for Amazon Advertising, and is expected to create 2,000 new jobs. Amazon will spend $55 million to make the space come to life, and it is scheduled to open sometime next year.

Field Condition Already, Amazon employs more than 1,800 people across three different locations in the city: Its Fashion Photo Studio in Brooklyn, a Prime Now hub on 34th Street, and a bookstore at Columbus Circle. Earlier this month the company announced that it was opening a massive fulfillment center on Staten Island that will measure 855,000 square feet and create 2,250 new jobs.
"Amazon's further expansion in New York is proof positive that our strong economic climate, diverse workforce and talent, are helping to attract top-notch companies from around the world," Governor Andrew Cuomo, said in a statement. The state has offered Amazon $20 million in performance-based taxed credits to boost the company's expansion.
