The house last sold in 2005 for just shy of $8 million

A Tribeca townhouse just hit the rental market for the first time ever asking $55,000/month, making it one of the city's priciest rentals up for grabs right now. The townhouse at 144 Reade Street is the work of BKSK Architects, who created dynamic entertaining areas like a double-height living room with a 23-foot window wall, a third-floor den with a wet bar, and a basement wine cellar.

The contemporary townhouse sits just outside of the Tribeca West Historic District and covers 6,000 square feet. Its ground floor gives way to one of the house's more coveted (and unusual, by New York City standards) perks, a two-car garage. An elevator, mud room, and powder room are also found on the ground floor.

The second floor opens up onto the double-height living room with a fireplace and views over Reade Street. The living room connects to an open dining area and a kitchen with white cabinets, a black stone countertop, and a stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator. The third floor den opens onto a 23-foot by 16-foot terrace.

The master suite takes up the whole fourth floor, with a 22-foot wide master bedroom with a fireplace, dressing room with a walk-in closet, and a master bathroom with a small terrace. Three bedrooms are found on the fifth floor, and the sixth floor has a media room (or yet another bedroom), a powder room, and a 23-foot by 14-foot terrace.

The house last sold in 2005 for just shy of $8 million. It's now on the market with Raphael De Niro and Evangelos Angelo Karras at Douglas Elliman.
