Venezuelan banker fetches $28M for 15 Central Park West apartment

Victor Vargas parted ways with his 35th floor apartment for $5 million less than his initial asking price

Another day, another ridiculously priced apartment sold at Robert A.M. Stern's uberexclusive 15 Central Park West. Venezuelan banker and polo team owner Victor Vargas managed to sell his moderately exciting three-bedroom within the Limestone Jesus for $28 million. It's not quite the asking price he once hoped for, and is a significant decrease at $5 million less, but still a gain from his purchase amount, reports Luxury Listings NYC.

Vargas purchased the 35th floor apartment back in 2009 from former Goldman Sachs partner Donald Opatrny, Jr. for $21.5 million and decided to part ways with the space in 2015, when he listed it for a whopping $33 million. Clearly, that didn't work out and it was last listed at $29 million before selling.

The apartment is admittedly far less boring than many other apartments within 15 CPW. The home boasts a lengthy gallery, two libraries, a powder room, two marble-clad bathrooms, and the breathtaking views of Central Park and the city's skyline that the building is known (in part) for.

While the sale doesn't come close to the $59 million penthouse on the 40th floor that reportedly last week to a wealthy Chinese buyer, $28 million isn't anything to scoff at either.
