Applicants were applying to 248 apartments in a 12-story building in Tremont
It's been four months since the affordable housing lottery launched on the massive COOKFOX-designed affordable complex in Tremont, in the Bronx. Now the developer of that project, the non-profit group Breaking Ground, has revealed that it received a staggering 55,163 applications for the building's 248 apartments.
This particular complex is made up of two buildings: Park House at 4275 Park Avenue is where the above mentioned affordable apartments are located, this in turn is connected to a supportive housing building, Webster Supportive Housing, by a landscaped courtyard designed by Terrain-NYC.
Park House features a mix of studios through three-bedrooms and prices ranged from $494 for a studio to $1,181 for a three-bedroom. The apartments were open to people in a host of income brackets starting from $18,823 per year and going up to $63,060 annually.
This particular project also marks Breaking Ground's first ground-up residence for low-income New Yorkers. The organization is currently the largest provider of supportive housing in the city.
"Park House will provide beautiful new homes for New York families who may be a paycheck away from falling into homelessness," Brenda Rosen, the president of Breaking Ground, said in a statement. "The number of applications we received is yet one more clear indication that New York City needs more affordable and supportive housing to help our most vulnerable residents."
