These structures are a real New York horror story
New York City is no stranger to creepy abandoned buildings that may or may not be haunted by residents from their past. The spookiest among them would arguably be the city's hospitals, asylums, and other medical centers that have long since been left in the shadows, but still boasts a powerful presence and attract daring adventurers to explore their enclaves.
In each borough, you'll find at least one of these abandoned buildings, some awaiting their newfound purpose, whether it be restoration or a new development, while others simply rot away.
Below, we've compiled a list of some of the city's most creepy abandoned nursing homes, mental institutions, and hospitals. Many of them are off-limits to the public but, of course, that hasn't stopped them from receiving the occasional visitor or two. In some, artifacts like apparel, medical equipment, books, and letters have been left behind, making it all the more frightening.
