Peek behind the construction fence of One Vanderbilt

See the construction site like you've never seen it before

We've got our first detailed look at the construction site of one of New York City's most anticipated projects, One Vanderbilt, thanks to the work of intrepid photographer Max Touhey.

He stopped by the construction site recently, where the steel superstructure is slowly, but surely, making its ascent toward 1,401 feet. Touhey traveled deep into the belly of the future office tower, and captured some dramatic shots of the structure above, and construction workers drilling and hammering away.

Touhey also captured photos of the construction site from different corners, away from the building, giving us a sense of its imposing presence in the future. Construction on the Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed tower has been moving along steadily since a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site a little over a year ago.

Once complete, the SL Green-developed building will be the tallest office tower in Midtown, and offer up 1.75 million square feet of office space. Construction is expected to wrap up in 2020. Here now are the rest of the cool construction site images.
