The 9,000-square-foot penthouse sold without ever officially hitting the market
Tadao Ando's seven-condo "jewel box" building at 152 Elizabeth Street in Nolita has unloaded its 9,000-square-foot penthouse for a whopping $35 million. While three of the building's less expansive units hit the market, the duplex penthouse was never officially listed, though it still managed to attract a wealthy buyer who remains to be revealed.
The four-bedroom, 4.5 bathroom abode spans three levels and encompasses nearly 9,000 square feet of space with an impressive 3,240 square feet of outdoor space. One of the most striking features within the residence is its glass and satin stainless steel spiral staircase, designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates, that connects the various floors. Other notable details include wide plank oak flooring, a stone-framed fireplace, a sleek kitchen with a sliding island, and custom kitchen cabinets.
Getting back to that outdoor space, there is a terrace off the apartment's first floor that is furnished with Tadao Ando's signature waterfalls, a balcony just off the master bedroom, and a rooftop garden equipped with everything from an outdoor kitchen and fireplace to a reflecting pool and soaking tub.
