19th-century UES mansion sells for $15M less than original ask

The nearly 12,000-square-foot home wanted $31 million back in 2016

One of the Upper East Side's most impressive townhouses has found a buyer. The Scribner Mansion, located at 39 East 67th Street and once home to publishing magnate Arthur Scribner has sold for $16 million, reports The Real Deal.

The 19th-century home last sold in 2014, after hitting the market for the first time in 50 years, for $22.5 million, but was relisted just two years later for $31 million. Per TRD, the price dropped down to $24.5 million last year and was most recently asking $18.75 million.

According to property records, the home has sold to David Cayre, a member of the family that owns the Buster Brown and Kids Today clothing companies.

The five-story abode dates back to 1876 and spans nearly 12,000 square feet. Most of the home is bare-bones, however, there are a few remaining details that include eight fireplaces, decorative molding, and a glass-encased solarium. The Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved plans for a gut renovation and also allows for a 1,520-square-foot rear addition.
