New Upper West Side rental launches with astronomical rents

Rents at this building, which is located across from Zabar's, range from $10,000/month to $25,000/month

A new rental building across from Zabar's on the Upper West Side has launched leasing with its apartments asking from an astronomical $10,000/month. The New York Times first reported on this development, located at 222 West 80th Street. The project is being developed by Rose Associates, and the Stephen B. Jacobs Group is the architect on the project.

In all, this 19-story rental has a total of 72 apartments with prices ranging from the above-mentioned amount to $25,000/month. Despite the staggering rents, and the fact that this building only recently appeared on the market, the rental is already 30 percent leased, according to the Times.

Typical apartments here have oversized windows, wide-plank oak flooring, spacious and swanky kitchens with appliances from the likes of Miele and Viking, and master baths that come with separate showers and tubs, and radiant heated flooring.

Amenities in the building include a rooftop lounge with three cooking stations, a bowling alley, a half basketball court, a fitness center with a yoga studio, a golf simulator, a children's playroom, and a game room with arcade games.

The first set of residents are set to move-in this month, with others following in the coming months. This isn't the only residential development near Zabar's; a Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed condo is under construction adjacent to the store and will have apartments asking from $3.8 million.
