London firm will bring 500-unit co-living tower to Broadway Triangle

The building will also also offer some affordable units

After debuting a 550-unit co-living tower in West London in 2016, the United Kingdom's first co-living community at that time, developers are heading to Brooklyn to construct a similar tower.

London-based development firm, the Collective, has announced plans for a mixed-use co-living building that will rise on the border of the contested Broadway Triangle, at 555 Broadway. The Collective acquired the site from Blesso Properties and plans to offer more than 500 apartments, some of which will reportedly be affordable (Curbed reached out for more information on pricing and will update as it becomes available).

The Brooklyn building will serve as the Collection's "flagship location" in the U.S. and is slated to include a food hall, a "community-focused restaurant and bar," several co-working areas, a fitness center that will offer group classes, outdoor terraces with barbecue and lounge areas; and a landscaped outdoor plaza with artwork and public seating. The building will also hosts workshops, seminars, performances, while also providing residents with rehearsal spaces and an art gallery.

Despite the Collective touting the building as the "first of its kind for New York City," there are actually a few co-living projects that have debuted over the years. In Long Island City, ALTA—a development with both conventional apartments and co-living units—recently began welcoming residents and co-living company Common has been providing the city with "community-minded shared living solutions" since 2015 and has three different locations.
