Long Island City’s unstoppable development boom, mapped

These developments are poised to usher in Queens's next generation of rentals and condos

In early November, Amazon confirmed that it would open one of its two new headquarters in Long Island City, once again thrusting the Queens neighborhood's massive development boom into the spotlight. A 2017 study found that the once-industrial area has given rise to more new apartments since 2010 than any other neighborhood in the country, and that figure is only rising.

Amazon's scaled-back HQ2 is expected to create 25,000 new jobs, and those employees will likely benefit from the thousands of new apartments that are in various stages of development in the neighborhood. (One thing to consider: Prices in the area are already sky-high, and experts say Long Island City and its surrounding neighborhoods will likely get even more expensive in the coming years.)

Here, we've mapped the Long Island City developments that are proposed or in progress, from rentals to condos to Amazon's waterfront-hugging HQ2. Did we miss one? Leave a comment or send a note to the tipline.
