Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick live next door to this home
On a stretch of West 11th Street that's occupied by a good number of elite New Yorkers—Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick; Liv Tyler; and Chipotle founder Steve Ells, to name a few—an approximately 8,000 square foot townhouse has just hit the market, with a an asking price that'll bolster the street's reputation as a "power block," as the Wall Street Journal put it. Located at 271 West 11th Street, the townhouse is going for $28.6 million.
Here's how the home fits in with the block's boldface neighbors: Parker and Broderick own the townhouses next door, which are in the process of being transformed into a huge megamansion. Former Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure snagged a townhouse next door to them in 2017 for $27.4 million. Steve Ells picked up adjoining townhouses at the end of the block, across from Tyler. It's a "nexus of that wealth and influence," per the WSJ.
The townhouse that's currently up for grabs is located just about midblock, and is a 12-unit property that could be converted into a single-family home. (There's a studio currently available for $2,400/month.) It's also exceptionally deep, extending 112 feet—with "one of the largest" gardens in the neighborhood—and has high ceilings throughout.
But buyer beware: Earlier this month, the New York Post reported that some of the block's residents are less than pleased with all of the construction work taking place, including one who said it's "ugly and dirty and untidy and it's been going for a long time already."
The house at 271 West 11th Street is listed with Matthew Pravda of Leslie J. Garfield for $28.6 million.
