Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Today, we've found five apartments within $20,000 of today's price: $1.5 million.

East Village

In an East Village co-op building, a renovated two-bedroom is going for $1.5 million. That renovation introduced plenty of chic elements, including bright blue built-ins, a chef's kitchen with new appliances, and a serene bathroom. The apartment is located close to Union Square, around the corner from the Strand Bookstore—so maybe all those shelves are a good thing.

Park Slope

This Park Slope co-op may not be the most updated apartment, but for $1.495 million, it's not a bad deal. It's a four-bedroom unit on Eighth Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets—close to the park, neighborhood restaurants, and plenty of other amenities. The apartment also comes with some vintage details, like moldings and coffered ceilings.

Gramercy Park

A large one-bedroom close to Gramercy Park is going for $1.495 million. The apartment in the Sage House co-op building was revamped from top to bottom, creating an 1,100-square-foot duplex with a huge master suite on the upper floor, and a common area—with kitchen and living room—on the lower one. Alas, a key to the exclusive park isn't part of the deal.

Midwood

Head to Midwood, where $1.475 million can buy a whole five-bedroom house, albeit one that needs some cosmetic upgrades. The house dates back to the early 20th century, and plenty of vintage details remain: original wainscoting, hardwood floors, and decorative fireplaces. There's also an abundance of outdoor space, including a front porch, deck, and a large backyard.

Upper West Side

And finally, on the Upper West Side, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with plenty of space is asking $1.5 million. High ceilings and plenty of windows give the space a bright, airy feel. The rooms are large, and the kitchen and bathroom were both recently renovated. It's located in a co-op building on West 96th Street that's only a few steps from Central Park.
