What $300,000 buys in NYC right now

See what you can get in neighborhoods like Williamsburg, the Upper East Side, and Prospect Heights

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Today, we've found five apartments within $20,000 of today's price: $300,000.

Williamsburg

A 300-square-foot studio in Williamsburg with a cute kitchen is asking $299,000. It's not a huge space, but there's space for a bed, living room area, and even a small kitchen table. The apartment is located on South 3rd Street near Bedford Avenue, and it's in an HDFC co-op building, meaning there are income restrictions on who can buy.

Kingsbridge

In the Bronx, a one-bedroom in Kingsbridge is going for $290,000. The apartment and bright and spacious, and thanks to a recent renovation, there are new appliances and fixtures throughout. There's also a rather sizable master closet with tons of storage space. It's on East 238th Street, about a 10-minute walk from the second to last stop on the 1 line.

Upper East Side

On the Upper East Side, a compact, ground-floor studio is going for $319,000. It's a simple space: Just one common space of around 200 square feet, along with a kitchen that's separate from the living room, and what appears to be a spacious bathroom. Its location is prime UES—84th Street between Second and Third avenues—and maintenance is only $450/month.

Prospect Heights

In a co-op building on Eastern Parkway, a studio apartment with a small, separate kitchen is going for just under $300,000. The space isn't huge, but given the layout—it's basically a square—it's definitely workable. And the location—across from the Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, and the 2 and 3 trains—can't be beat.

Hamilton Heights

And finally, in Hamilton Heights, a one-bedroom apartment is going for $299,000. There isn't much closet space, and the kitchen is tiny but tidy. But on the plus side, it has big windows, a nice sized bedroom, and it's close to Convent Avenue, one of the prettiest blocks in New York. Maintenance is $586/month.
