What $4,500 rents in NYC right now

See what $4,500/month rents in NYC neighborhoods like the East Village, Upper West Side, and Greenpoint

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today, we're looking at apartments renting around $4,500/month.

Soho

A one-bedroom apartment on West Houston Street is renting for $4,495/month. (It's $4,695/month if you want it furnished.) The 700-square-foot apartment has a galley kitchen with new appliances, plenty of closet space, and access to a roof deck. Location-wise, it's close to a Trader Joe's and Film Forum—what more do you need?

Carroll Gardens

A spacious two-bedroom, floor-through unit in a Carroll Gardens townhouse is going for $4,500/month. The kitchen—which isn't huge, but has a dishwasher—opens up to the large living room/dining room area, which comes with a working fireplace. There are two bathrooms and plenty of closets. It's also a ten-minute walk to the F/G at Carroll Street.

Upper West Side

A nearly 1,000-square-foot one-bedroom on the Upper West Side is renting for $4,500/month. The apartment has a big bedroom with a walk-in closet, a spacious living room, and a balcony. It's located on Riverside Drive between 94th and 95th streets—a stellar location, a stone's throw from Riverside Park.

Greenpoint

A one-bedroom on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint—around the corner from McCarren Park and the now-defunct Enid's—is asking $4,500/month. It's located in the former Horace Greeley school building, which dates to the 19th century, and spans 971 square feet. The apartment itself has two bathrooms, high ceilings, a balcony, and huge windows.

East Village

Last but not least, a one-bedroom in the East Village—one with no fee, at that—is going for $4,500/month. The apartment was recently renovated, and has beamed ceilings, exposed brick, and new kitchen appliances. It's in a stellar location: East 12th Street between Avenues A and B.
