Musician Michael Feinstein lists his Upper East Side mansion for $16M

The five-story townhouse features six bedrooms, and eight bathrooms

In 2013, noted musician/Great American Songbook archivist Michael Feinstein, and his husband Terrence Flannery tried to sell their Upper East Side mansion for $18 million, but no one came forward to pick it up.

Now, four years later, the combo townhouse is back on the market, albeit with a major makeover, and it's now asking $15.9 million—significantly less than its original ask. The New York Post first reported on the listing, which is located on East 63rd Street, in Lenox Hill.

The five story townhouse features six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a lush backyard set amid ivy-covered brick walls and accessorized with pagodas, and measures 6,160 square feet.

Over the years the house has hosted many a celebrity soirée, and notable guests have included the likes of Elaine Stritch, Tony Bennett, Liza Minnelli, and Stephen Sondheim, according to the Post. In fact, the brokers on the property, Douglas Elliman's Tom Postilio and Mickey Conlon (who are close friends with Feinstein) got married in the house last year.

In 2013, Postilio and Conlon advised Feinstein and Flannery to carry out some renovations on the mansion to make it more appealing. The couple widened the rooms in the house, and added a meditation terrace and gym on the top floor.

The couple's mansion is a combination of two townhouses that were built towards the end of the 19th century. They spent a total of $6.8 million on the properties between 2004-2005. Nowadays, the couple resides in Carmel, Indiana, where Feinstein serves as the artistic director for The Center for the Performing Arts. They no longer need such a massive property in New York City, and are hence looking to sell.
