The apartments would be spread out between a 21 and 23-story building
A new rental building is set to rise right next to one of the entrances of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in Downtown Brooklyn. YIMBY first broke the news of the development, which is being designed by Aufgang Architects. The project was just certified to enter into the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) as the developer will need ask for a zoning variance in order to move forward.
As plans stand right now, the developer intends to build a 21 and 23-story tower that will be connected by a shorter structure. The buildings will have 262 apartments, of which 79 will be affordable units. Just a little under 14,000 square feet has been set aside for ground floor retail, and there will be parking for 44 cars.
"Aufgang Architects is known for its thoughtful and creative designs that esthetically complement and enhance the character and fabric of their communities," Ariel Aufgang, the principal of the namesake firm, told Curbed, in a statement. "This project is consistent with that track record."
Currently, the site at 202-208 Tillary Street is occupied by a storage facility, which will ultimately be demolished to make way for this rental development. The ULURP process generally takes several months, so it will still be a while before this project is finalized.
