Want a view of the 4th of July fireworks? Here's where to go
In less than one week, the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky for its 41st annual spectacle. The company has been touting this year's event as the "largest display in more than a decade," with more than 60,000 shells launching from five barges stationed along the East River from 24th to 41st streets. The 25-minute display will also showcase new pyrotechnic designs and colors. Fun!
There are a few key changes, especially for residents of Brooklyn: neither Brooklyn Bridge Park or the Brooklyn Heights Promenade will make for prime viewing spots this year since the barges are bulked closer to Midtown. Still, there are plenty of spots where you can get a stellar view, including ones officially sanctioned by Macy's—and ones that, well, aren't.
Below, check out some of the best ways to watch the July 4 fireworks, whether you want to be with the crowds in Midtown or would rather watch them from a safe remove—i.e., on a boat or a barge in the East River. And if we missed a prime spot, let us know in the comments.
