Plaza penthouse of ritzy developer Christian Candy finally nabs a buyer

Candy first tried to sell this triplex for $59 million in 2013

After a four-year struggle, developer Christian Candy's Plaza penthouse has finally gone into contract, The Real Deal has learned. After first putting it on the market for $59 million in 2013, Candy eventually reduced the price to $39.7 million earlier this year, and that's the price it went into contract at.

The penthouse takes up floors 19 through 21 at the Plaza, measures over 6,000 square feet, and comes with four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Candy scooped up the pad from a disgruntled previous owner (who called it an attic) in 2012 for $25.4 million. It was back on the market after a pricey makeover with custom furnishings, a year later.

The price comes inclusive of all of these upgrades, which Candy's own firm, Candy & Candy carried out. After first listing it on the market in 2013, Candy reduced the ask to $49.9 million in 2015, but that didn't seem to work either.

Candy is most notable as the developer behind London's One Hyde Park. It remains to be seen how much his Plaza penthouse actually sells for, but we'll be sure to update this post when we find out.
