The Doe Fund will develop the 15-story building with 255 affordable apartments
The Doe Fund, a nonprofit that serves homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals, will develop a 15-story building with 255 affordable housing units on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx. The monthly rent on those units will range from $724/month for a studio to $1,546/month for a three-bedroom.
A portion of the units will be allocated to residents with supportive services needs—with a component for formerly homeless individuals—through an Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) award. The other units will be reserved for low-income families making between 37 to 57 percent area median income and for households already living in the neighborhood.
The building, designed by GF55 Partners, will have 82 studios, 92 one-bedrooms, 53 two-bedrooms, and 27 three-bedrooms, along with 26,000 square feet of retail space. On-site supportive services available to residents will include case management, employment training, and substance use prevention.
Groundbreaking dates haven't been announced, but a statement says construction is expected to last 24 months.
"As our city continues to struggle with an affordability crisis, projects like these are a beacon of hope and opportunity for communities most affected by it," George T. McDonald, founder of the Doe Fund, said in a statement.
Another Doe Fund affordable housing development recently began construction in the borough: a 10-story building with 68 units at 3188 Villa Avenue, slated to be completed by 2020.
