Huge fire breaks out at Greenwich Village apartment building

The cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time

A five-alarm fire ripped through a six-story residential building known as The Hamilton, at 60 East 9th Street in Greenwich Village, around 5:45 p.m., reports Metro. The cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time and 138 firefighters are on scene handling the situation, managing to downgrade the devastation to a three-alarm blaze.

The good news is that no serious injuries have been reported; one firefighter is being treated for minor injuries but that's all that has been reported as of publication. However, local subway service has been affected by the fire and N, Q, R, and W trains are bypassing the Eighth Avenue station as the FDNY continues on scenes trying to clear heavy smoke from the building's roof.

The co-op building is comprised of 214 apartments with six of them listed for sale, asking from $525,000 for a studio to $1.195 million for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom.

The FDNY has been post updates to the situation on their Twitter feed:

And people around the neighborhood have also been capturing the developing scene on Instagram:
