Cool off at one of the city's many free pools on those hotter days
School is out and New York City's public pools are open for business, returning with extended hours and a longer season.
New Yorkers can head to one of the city's 55 free public pools scattered throughout the five boroughs any day during the summer between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (the pools close from 3 to 4 p.m. for cleaning). Additionally, the city's Department of Parks has already announced that pools will remain open until Sunday, September 10, a week beyond its usual Labor Day closing date.
On Friday, Brooklyn Bridge Park's popular pop-up pool at Pier 2 will reopen for the summer after successfully securing a one-year extension for the pool to stay in place.
As part of a new pilot program, all public beaches and outdoor pools will offer free SPF 50 sunscreen through new dispensers stationed throughout the areas, reports DNAinfo.
